The Business details for the Unique Cargo Drone project
Produce, sell, train and support CargoTron PD250 eVTOL remotely piloted cargo drones. Primary use case is B2B express/less than truck load parcel deliveries overcoming constraints in ground transportation and congestion. It can take-off/land in loading areas, car parks etc and fly up-to 600km direct to the customer’s premises. This is achieved via a hybrid power plant. Other use cases include delivery of humanitarian aid, emergency cargo, equipment to offshore/wind farm vertiports plus para-military and military tasks. Customers have identified benefits to transport different volumes and types of cargo such as general B2B supplies, refrigerated medical aid, and maintenance equipment to remote zones not easily accessible and at low cost. This is a great business opportunity.
The Market
EVTOL cargo drones are slowly overtaking demand from passenger versions as regulations restrict certification and use of the passenger versions especially without a pilot. Remotely piloted cargo drones are becoming increasingly popular, both Deloitte and SMG project cargo drones taking a greater share of the eVTOL market from 2025-2030 with an estimated $7.5b market value just for the platforms.
CargoTron expects to reach 3-4.5% of this market + a further 5% with expected growth. Target customers include logistic supply companies, humanitarian aid/emergency supply operators, offshore wind farm operators, coastguards, para-military and military. Unique selling points include smallest safe landing zone, customisable cargo pods, quick changeover of cargo pods on ground, lowest acquisition and operating costs. We have just one competitor which is based in USA but we can show that the PD250 is better.
Progress/Proof of the Unique Cargo Drone project
Market research, customer surveys and the conceptual design are complete under our own effort and costs (estimated at value £1.6m). CargoTron has a website and LinkedIn site.
The PD250 is much more efficient than any competition. We have received a lot of very positive feedback from industry experts and customers. We also won the ‘Pitch Competition’ at the Revolution Aero’ event in Dublin in April 2023. Whilst we wait more funding to push for pre-orders we have our initial pipeline of customers, some of which would like to buy ‘today’. We have featured in the following press journals: ‘Future Flight’, ‘Cargo Facts’, Aviation News’, ‘Aviation Turkey’ and ‘sUAS News’.
The project needs funding to progress to its preliminary design phase and then more to achieve first flight). We are patent pending for our folding wing undercarriage concept. Objectives/Future
CargoTron is heading toward a conservative company value of £240m by year 7. Revenues commence in year 4 with first deliveries and break even in year 5 at delivery of the 100th unit. We need to get to market and be the leader to achieve a higher company value. We need to complete the design and development including certification. Our today schedule is consistent with the main external factor of civil regulations availability in 2024. This means first flight month 21, certification and production ready month 42 (mid 2027).
We have a large network of industry specialists and we will recruit engineers, procurement, quality and support specialists inter alia. In parallel we will be marketing and selling pre-orders against our current and future sales pipeline. The 2 co-founders and small engineering team have over 150 years of aerospace experience, so we are confident with that the product, its development and sales potential will be achieved with low risk.
